Greg and Brad were old friends. They knew each other from school days. Now they were elderly men and they had a little company. They worked together, but they didn’t work too much. They had enough money to buy what they wanted. They didn’t want to spend their time at work. They wanted to live and have fun.
‘Let’s go to eat something,’ said Greg. ‘I think we worked enough today. I am quite hungry. And what about you? Are you not hungry?’
‘Yes, I think that it is time to eat something, too. Where will we go?’ asked Brad.
‘We’ll go to Mr Belford’s restaurant, as usual,’ answered Greg and they both laughed.
Mr Belford had a little restaurant and he knew Greg and Brad very well. Long time ago, they were friends, but he didn’t like them now. He didn’t like them because when they came to his restaurant they only paid half the price.
A few months earlier, Mr Belford wanted to get more customers. He made little pieces of paper. There was “50% cheaper” written on each piece of paper. When a customer gave this paper to the waiter in his restaurant, then he only paid half of the price of his meal.
Every customer could get these pieces of paper for free. But every customer could get only five pieces of paper.
Greg and Brad called all of their friends, and they came to the restaurant and took all these pieces of paper. After that, they gave them to Greg and Brad. Now Greg and Brad had so many of these pieces of paper that they could eat at Mr Belford’s restaurant for half the price for two months. And of course, Mr Belford didn’t like that.
They entered the restaurant and when they saw Mr Belford, Greg said: “Hello, Mr Belford. I hope that you have a nice day! We came to your restaurant because we like your food very much. It is the best in the city, isn’t it Brad?’
‘Yes, it is,’ replied Brad. ‘I think it is the best food in the world.’
‘Not you again!’ said Mr Belford. You cannot eat here today.’
‘Why not?’ asked Greg.
Mr Belford looked around his restaurant and then he turned to Greg with a smile. ‘There is no free table for you.’
‘Don’t worry, Mr Belford. I am sure, we will find one table,’ said Greg and walked to one of the tables at the back of the room. Brad smiled and followed his friend.
