Naše vnímanie vyučovacieho procesu
Sme presvedčení, že základom akéhokoľvek štúdia je sebavzdelávanie. A hoci je to téza platná v každej oblasti, vo sfére anglického jazyka (a cudzieho jazyka vôbec) to platí dvakrát. Tomuto presvedčeniu je prispôsobená aj forma našej výučby.
Tá prebieha v dvoch rovinách: vyučovacia hodina 20% a samoštúdium 80%. Máme za to, že dôraz, ktorý sa (v štandardných jazykových kurzoch) kladie na samotnú vyučovaciu hodinu, pričom sa prakticky zanedbáva (alebo úplne absentuje) štúdium mimo nej, je jedným z dôvodov, prečo študent napreduje pomaly, alebo, v tom horšom prípade, nerobí pokroky vôbec.
Vyučovanie ako “spoločenská zmluva”
Učenie sa cudzieho jazyka je dlhodobý proces, ktorý, z pohľadu vyučujúceho, vyžaduje dve veci: usmernenie a motiváciu. To prvé ponúkame v podobe výučby gramatiky a jej okamžitom používaní v anglickej konverzácii. Čo sa týka motivácie, tá sa odzrkadľuje v našom mnohostrannom úsilí vzbudiť u študenta úprimný záujem a potešnie z anglického jazyka a výučby s ním spojenej – to je našich 20%.
Rýchlosť, intenzita a efektívnosť vyučovania je priamo úmerná tomu, do akej miery študujúci napĺňa svojich 80% “zmluvy”. Jej základ tvoria domáce úlohy, ktorých vypracovanie je nevyhnutné pre ďaľšie pokračovanie na nasledujúcej hodine. Domáca úloha tvorí približne 30%-ný podiel a sama osebe zabezpečuje posun vo výuke a postupné napredovanie študenta. Zvyšných približne 50% dodatočných techník umožní študentovi postupovať so znásobenou intenzitou. Tieto budú študentovi vysvetlené v rámci vyučovacieho procesu.
Vyučovanie prebieha v anglickom jazyku, s výnimkou určitých výrazov a slovných spojení, ktorých ekvivalent v materinskom jazyku napomáha v pochopení gramatických súvislostí a urýchľuje tým samotný proces učenia, (predovšetkým pri študentoch na nižšej vedomostnej úrovni cieľového jazyka).
Cieľ našej výuky
Anglický jazyk (sa) učíme pre radosť a každodenné použitie, nie pre testy a certifikáty. Naším cieľom je dopomôcť študentovi dosiahnuť úroveň takú, aby vedel plynulo komunikovať a prečítať knihu v anglickom jazyku na úrovni bestsellerov. Túto úroveň jazyka považujeme za cieľovú pre väčšinu študentov a pre nás takisto v tom zmysle, že umožňuje študentovi efektívne a rýchle napredovanie formou samovzdelávania, pokiaľ má záujem o dosahovanie vyššej úrovne.
Vzhľadom k tomu, že vyučujeme komplexne a systematicky, t.j. ucelenú gramatickú úroveň, rozlišujeme štyri vedomostné stupne:
- Úplný začiatočník – študent sa nikdy anglický jazyk neučil.
- Večný začiatočník – študent navštívil mnoho jazykových kurzov, prípadne sa učil pred mnohými rokmi a nič si “nepamätá”; nevie rozprávať, nerozumie základným gramatickým konceptom, hoci ich mnohokrát v škole prebral. Má nejakú slovnú zásobu.
- Mierne pokročilý – študent prebral vyššie gramatické štruktúry, ale ich nevie použiť, pletú sa mu, nerozumie súvislostiam; vie komunikovať ale v prevažne jednoduchších vetných štruktúrach, má pomerne dobrú slovnú zásobu.
- Pokročilý – študent vie plynulo komunikovať; dokáže prečítať best-seller;
Naším spoločným cieľom vo výučbe anglického jazyka je dosiahnutie úrovne 4 (ako je opísaná vyššie).
Doslov
Náš záujem sa orientuje predovšetkým na výučbu všeobecnej angličtiny a spôsoby, akými čo najlepšie a čo najrýchlejšie dopomôcť tým, ktorí majú skutočný záujem naučiť sa po anglicky, dosiahnuť svoj cieľ.
V tomto duchu je koncipovaná aj naša webstránka, ktorá s výnimkou dvoch informatívnych článkov, je celá písaná v anglickom jazyku, aby naši študenti už počas výučby u nás (ale dúfame aj po jej skončení) mohli používať a upevňovať nadobudnuté poznatky a aj prostredníctvom našej stránky sa tak dokázali čo najskôr zaradiť do komunity anglicky hovoriacich ľudí, v zmysle nášho motta: Učte sa po anglicky, aby ste sa stali súčasťou sveta (Learn English to Join the World).
Je pre nás úprimnou radosťou, počuť od našich študentov po roku intenzívneho štúdia, že si doma pozerajú seriál alebo čítajú knihu v anglickom jazyku.

Our Understanding of the Learning Process
It is our strong conviction that the basis of any learning is to be found in self-education. And while this may be true in every area of our interest, in the realm of the English language (and any foreign language for that matter) even more so. It is this basic understanding of learning which has shaped the way we teach.
Our teaching takes place in two dimensions: actual lesson (20%) and self-study (80%). We find the fact that the emphasis, which (in traditional language courses) is put on the lesson itself, while the out-of-the-lesson learning is being widely neglected (or absent altogether), to be one of the main reasons why a learner progresses slowly or, in a worse case scenario, does not progress at all.
Teaching as a “Social Contract”
Learning of a language is a long term undertaking which, from the teacher’s point of view, requires two things: navigation and motivation. The first we offer in teaching of the English grammar and applying of the same immediately in a conversation conducted solely in the target language. As to the motivation, it is fully reflected in our wide-ranging effort to instigate in our students that sincere interest in English which helps them enjoy learning it in every shape or form – that would be our 20% of the “contract”.
The speed, intensity and effectiveness of learning is directly related to what an extent a student fulfils their 80% of the “contract”. It comprises homework (approx. 30%), doing which is necessary for the continuity of our teaching on the following lesson and which alone guarantees a steady headway in learning and a student’s gradual progress in general, and other self-learning techniques (approx 50%) which enable the learner to advance with an increased intensity. The latter shall be explained to our students during their lessons as a part of our teaching process.
The actual lesson is conducted solely in English, with the exception of certain expressions and word phrases, whose counterparts in the mother tongue may be of some use in better understanding of grammatical structures and thus speeding up of the learning process itself (especially so with the students whose knowledge of the target language is at a lower level).
The Goal of Our Teaching
We teach and have our students learn the English language for the sheer joy of it and its everyday usage, not for passing tests or obtaining certificates. It is our desire to help them achieve such a level of understanding of the language that they be able to communicate fluently and read bestseller literature in English. We recognise this level of the English language as the target level for most learners, and for us as well in that it provides the students with the skills necessary for their further self-education, should they be interested in advancing to even higher levels of the language.
With regard to the fact that we teach the English language in a complex and systematic way, i.e. in a whole grammatical level, we recognise, for our own purposes, the following four levels:
- Total Beginner – the student has never learnt English at all.
- False Beginner – the student has attended numerous language courses or they learnt the language many years ago, but can “remember nothing”; they can’t speak, don’t understand basic grammar concepts, althought they have learnt about them many times at school; the student has some vocabulary
- Intermediate – the student has learnt more intermediate level grammatical structures, but is incapable of using them; does not understand how they relate to one another; they can communicate, but mostly in simpler sentence structures; they have relatively good vocabulary
- Advanced – the student can talk fluently; they can understand and use the grammar in the scope of Grammar in Use (for intermediate learners) and above; they can read a bestseller with understanding (despite not understanding it fully)
Our goal in teaching the English language is for a student to achieve level 4 (as described above).
Afterword
Our focus is primarily on the teaching of general English and the ways in which we could best and fastest help those who show their genuine desire to learn English achieve their goal.
Keeping this intention in mind, we have structured our website in such a way that with the exception of two articles, it is all written in English so that during their learning with us (and hopefully long after) our students could use and practise their knowledge of the language and that, also through this website, they could join the community of the English speaking people at their earliest, in line with our motto: Learn English to Join the World.
We draw a sense of deep satisfaction from hearing that after a year of intensive study, our students can now watch their favourite TV series or read a book in English.
